CLINICAL/MEDICAL

CLINICAL MASSAGE

This is a blanket term used for soft tissue corrective techniques, or manual therapy. These require client/therapist interaction and are performed with the intention of improving function and decreasing pain.

Some of the Clinical manual therapies currently available at Coyote Creek Massage include: Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Therapy, Muscle Energy Techniques, Deep Tissue Massage, Positional Release, Hot Stone Therapy, Hydrotherapy, Cryotherapy, Acupressure and Aromatherapy.

A clinical massage treatment session will likely include several of the techniques above. Which ones are used are determined at the time of treatment and based on your presenting concerns. It will also include stretching and/or exercise homework to that you can maintain the progress you have made during the session.

We are always looking to add to our skill-set and will integrate more as we acquire new and related techniques

MEDICAL MASSAGE

Medical massage is generally used to identify clinical massage performed under a physicians prescription. This is usually accompanied by the need to bill an insurance company for the services, have ongoing communication with the insurance company, primary care physician, physical therapist, other practitioners and lawyers.

A medical massage will look very much like the previous description of clinical massage, but they are different services.

THERAPEUTIC

SWEDISH MASSAGE

The one hour bliss-out. If you've never had a massage before, this is a great one to start with. Swedish is a gentle whole body treatment used to ease your worries and restore the mind/body balance.

Your therapist will use a technique called Effleurage, meaning "to skim" or to "touch lightly on", it can be firm or light pressure, but always starts out as light. It is a series of long, broad gliding strokes that warm up the tissues and quiet the nervous system making it easier to effect the muscles on a deeper level. Your session will include heated towels and warm oils or creams. Hot stones may be incorporated at therapists discrestion. Aromatherapy will be added upon request.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

Contrary to popular belief deep tissue massage does not mean "push really hard". It should not be a painful experience that you have to endure.

We will always start our Deep tissue session by priming the tissues using Effleurage. Once the tissues are warmed up we will begin our deeper work. Deep Tissue massage focuses on opening up the deeper layers of tissue using joint mobilization, pin and stretch techniques, slow movements, applying deeper pressure (slowly), and cross fiber friction. It can aid in releasing toxins from muscle tissues and release constrictions that are causing blood flow to be decreased in contracted areas by lengthening muscles. This type of massage is much more effective when the muscles are not resisting, which is why pushing really hard is actually ineffective.

Deep tissue massage is usually used in conjunction with a relaxation massage but would focus more on selected areas and less on others to ensure we stay within our time frame. For example, you may have less time on hands and feet to add a little more time to neck or arms, or visa versa. Other times, Deep tissue will be used alongside Clinical work in order to focus on therapeutic concerns. Every massage is determined at the time of treatment and based on your presenting concerns at the time of service.

*For simplicity sake, Therapeutic Massage is an incorporation of Swedish & Deep Tissue. Choose your preferred style when meeting with your therapist.

HOT STONE THERAPY

WHAT IS HOT STONE THERAPY?

Hot stone therapy is a specialist massage that uses smooth, flat, heated basalt stones to achieve a deeper level of muscular relaxation, it is incredibly calming to the mind and body. The stones are heated in water until they reach a precise temperature.

HOW DOES HOT STONE THERAPY WORK?

Your hot stone massage will begin with warm oil using a traditional Swedish massage technique to prepare your muscles. Your therapist will then use the heated stones on key acupressure points on your body massaging your neck, back, arms and legs, with and without the stones. The stones warm and relax your muscles allowing them to loosen and stretch for deeper, longer lasting results.

You should always tell your therapist if the stones are too warm of the pressure is too intense.

Allow plenty of time for your hot tone treatment; arrive 10 minutes early to allow yourself time to relax. If it is your first time visiting us, you will be asked to fill out a pre-treatment questionnaire. Avoid eating a heavy meal or drinking alcohol prior to the treatment.
